LAS CRUCES -- The three Las Cruces-area lawmakers who proposed legislation last session to reign in the State Land Office said they got a lot accomplished, but they likely aren't done yet.
"I feel there's probably still a little bit more that we need to do. We basically started from scratch," said Rep. Nate Cote, explaining that existing regulations within the office deal almost exclusively with oil and gas leases, not land development. "This was something that was far overdue as far as what we needed to put into the statute."
