AN OPEN stretch of land, once a crime-infested marsh in the heart of Khayelitsha, is being transformed into a haven of hope ahead of next year's World Cup.
The now neatly paved area in the centre of Harare - a spot notorious for murder and rape and where several bodies have been found dumped - will soon boast the first Fifa Football for Hope Centre in Africa.
Nineteen others will be built across the continent, including in Joburg, Mali, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Namibia.
