Dhaka, May. 26 -- The death toll from cyclone Aila that lashed southern Bangladesh yesterday rose to 81 as rescuers were desperately looking for missing people.
Official counts, however, confirmed 29 deaths till this afternoon.
Local media reported that hundreds of people were missing in the coastal districts as 10-13 feet tidal surge washed away innumerable houses, cattleheads and wildlife.
Tens of thousands of people were marooned by the tidal surge.
UNB news agency said worst affected districts were Satkhira and Khulna close to the Sundarbans. The agency said 23 people died in Satkhira and 20 in Khulna.
