Wisconsin is closer and Indiana is cheaper, but there is something about golf in Michigan that makes it unique in the Midwest. The air seems cleaner, the hardwood forests deeper and more imposing.
For the vacationing Chicagoan, the prime golfing destination in Michigan ought to be the links-rich pastures in and around Grand Traverse in the north, about a four-hour drive.
