PLEASANTON, Calif.--Dec. 11--Pacific Bell is betting a new wireless "smart" phone based on an East Bay company's software will be a smart buy for people on the go. But this gizmo doesn't come cheap.
Pacific Bell Mobile Services' Nokia 9000i phone, which runs on an operating system created by Alameda-based Geoworks Inc., costs about $1,000. At that price, the phone's appeal probably would be confined to business people or affluent consumers who need to communicate anytime and from anywhere.
