THE ZUMA administration has quickly distinguished itself from the Mbeki administration on the issue of defending human rights abroad.
Nowhere has this been clearer than on the emblematic Burma/Myanmar issue.
Mbeki's government infamously voted against a resolution at the UN Security Council condemning the human rights abuses of the Burma military junta.
The government explained the surprising decision on technical and procedural grounds, saying the Security Council was not the right forum to discuss human rights issues, which should rather be discussed in the UN Human Rights Council.
