FOUR tabby kittens scampered among the fragments of stones and fallen columns, while their mother snoozed nearby in a Byzantine drain.
The human visitors to Rhodes' own Acropolis at Lindos were similarly split. Some scrambled between the ruins of what were once Roman temples, Greek staircases and medieval towers. The rest stood by the edge of the castle's battlements, spellbound by the view of white sugar-cube houses, pale beach and the sparkling Mediterranean.
In fact, I suspect many people tried both, as I did. This mix of culture and natural beauty is what makes Rhodes so appealing.
