Disability sports should be included in the general physical education curriculum because they promote an understanding, tolerance, and appreciation of the athletes who excel in disability sports. I have seen these athletes during the 2002 Winter Olympics and during a CAHPERD APE conference. The name however should be changed from disability sports to Extra-Ability Sports. These athletes are amazing and inspiring role models to youths and adults with and without disabilities. Students who participate will develop respect for disability sports and the affective benefits of the attitude that "I can do anything" will spread among all students. If we can teach kids that ...
