Long before the words health and safety were joined together in marriage, Keith Floyd and I decided to cook a meal in a Tasmanian hotel room. These were innocent times - Pamela Anderson tended to be at least partially clothed when she appeared on screen. And I had yet to learn about smoke alarms.
Heavy rain had stopped us filming on a pier in Hobart that day, so instead we fired up a Calor gas stove in our room. Keith was soon rustling up a sumptuous sea snail and oyster sauce concoction. Our reverie, however, was short lived: six burly firemen suddenly barged into our room.
