There is good news at last from South Asia. India, the world's largest democracy, successfully concluded monthlong national elections in which the Congress party and its allies won an unexpected and decisive victory. Pakistan, India's next-door neighbor, is at last moving forcefully against the country's own Taliban forces. In the next few weeks, the army is expected to reoccupy Swat, a region that earlier this year the government had conceded to the Taliban. In the meantime, the Taliban is fighting back fiercely.
