Inspired by salons in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, when distinguished guests attended cultural events in prestigious homes, Salon Musica will debut Saturday in the historic GE Realty Plot as an annual fundraiser for the Schenectady Light Opera Company.
Eleven musical groups will perform in three luxurious homes in the neighborhood developed around 1900 by the General Electric Co. to help attract some of the brightest minds in the world. On Saturday, The Plot, as residents call it, will serve another purpose: raise money for the Schenectady Light Opera Company and its soon-to-be new home in downtown Schenectady.
