CANAJOHARIE -- Financial assistance from the state will help candy maker Richardson Brands Inc. stay in this Mohawk River community, preserving 128 jobs and adding another 15.
The company had said it would have to move to another site when its neighbor, Beech-Nut baby foods, closes its plant across the street and moves to the Town of Florida Business Park 25 miles away.
That's because Beech-Nut's boiler heats both plants. It was installed when the companies had a common owner, but it is too large to efficiently heat Richardson's building.
