Demand is Low across all sectors of the polyurethanes business, but the experts interviewed during the UTECH Europe 2009 event in Maastricht, 31 Mar-2 Apt, were quietly optimistic about prospects--although not necessarily for the immediate future.

For example, in March and April, Huntsman has seen "signs of life," significantly in Asia, said Tony Hankins, president of Huntsman's Polyurethanes Division: he remains, "very optimistic about the future."
But, he said, "the fourth quarter shock as demand slumped in all three regions simultaneously," in 2008, was "something we have never seen before."
