Elan soars on stake-sale speculation
THE Dublin market was closed yesterday, but there was plenty of trade in leading stocks with dual or primary listings in London and New York, including Elan, which at one point traded some 18pc higher on reports that Bristol-Myers Squibb was in talks to buy a stake in the Irish drug firm.
This was denied by analysts at UBS who said Bristol-Myers Squibb had confirmed it was not currently in talks to buy a minority stake in Elan.
On the Nasdaq market in New York, shares in Elan were up 12.5pc at $7.85.
