The 86-year-old Roberto Matta practices the method of discovering the picture while he makes it. As an aid to the imagination. Opportunities for creative response are set in place by the free and inventive use of oil paint. The final painting is based on the particular way the materials are handled in the early stages. The balance between accident and freedom and the ordering of figurative process can vary widely. For Matta, the situation is always evolving.
