By the end of 1994, San Antonio had chalked up some important international accomplishments. In 1992, the International Drug Summit was held, with President Bush and several Latin American presidents in attendance. In 1993, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was initialed by President Bush, Prime Minister Mulroney of Canada, and President Salinas de Gortari of Mexico. In 1994, the binational North American Development Bank was established in San Antonio as a result of NAFTA. All of these international events focused San Antonio more keenly on international matters and raised San Antonio's international profile.
