Controversial journalist gets plum '80,000 SIPTU PR job

CONTROVERSIAL journalist Frank Connolly is to be appointed to a plum PR job with the country's largest trade union.

Mr Connolly is taking up the lead public liaison role with SIPTU, despite his personal PR disaster after allegations by former Tanaiste Michael McDowell that he had sought a passport in a false name.

Mr Connolly's brother Niall was a member of the Colombia Three. Niall was the Sinn Fein representative in Cuba, and was arrested in Bogota in 2001 with James Monaghan and Martin McAuley, the last two Northern Ireland republicans with terrorism convictions.
