When I was depressed and needed both medication and therapy, I was bothered that no profession did both. I saw a psychologist who helped me understand and modify my behavior. When it became apparent that some problems were biochemical, I was referred to a psychiatrist for medication.
It is my understanding that clinical psychologists who already have a Ph.D. can obtain additional training to prepare them to prescribe medicine. If they are licensed in a state that allows psychologists to prescribe, they will be able to put their education into practice.
