The South Dakota Sand Hills are a rolling sea of grass, an area of sand dunes covered by prairie grass and used almost exclusively for grazing beef cattle (Photo 1). They are located in the southwestern part South Dakota along the Nebraska state line.
An Unknown Place
Many people have heard of the Nebraska Sand Hills, but few know about the South Dakota Sand Hills. Little to no pictures of the Sand Hills can be found in South Dakota Magazine, South Dakota Vacation Guide, or tourist brochures.
