The Golden State Warriors, in an unprecedented move, terminated guard Latrell Sprewell's $32 million contract after he physically attacked his coach, P.J. Carlesimo. The NBA took further action by suspending him from the league for one year without pay.
It is the first time in NBA history that a player's contract has been terminated for insubordination. Sprewell, in the second year of his four-year deal, was to earn $7.7 million this season.
