For years Tony Dungy was projected as a top young prospect for an NFL head coaching job, but like other Black assistant coaches, he kept getting passed over.
His shot to move into the ranks of head coaches finally came last season with the dismal Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He became the third Black head coach in the NFL, and in only Dungy's second season, he's resurrected the Bucs. The team is celebrating its first nonlosing season since 1982. At press time the team's record was 9-5.
