DETROIT--Jan. 6--The bug is back, but who will love it?
And more important to Volkswagen, who will buy it?
Those are the questions that VW executives addressed Monday, when they unveiled the 1998 New Beetle that will hit U.S. dealerships in the spring with a base price of $15,200.
The unexpectedly low price drew applause from journalists at the North American International Auto Show preview, where VW officials gushed with praise for the revamped bug.
"The New Beetle is an inspiration to live -- or, you could say, it's optimism on wheels," said Jens Neumann, the VW management board member responsible for North America. ...
