The "premier livre simultane" is the name of Blaise Cendrars's and Sonia Delaunay's joint project in which Cendrars's poem La Prose du Transsiberien et de la petite Jehanne de France,(1) reproduced vertically with a multicolored, typographically displaced text, is juxtaposed with Delanuay's painting of simultaneously contrasting colors and forms. This two-meter-high folding "book" sparked an international polemic concerning the nature of simultaneite' upon its appearance in 1913.
