INTRODUCTION
There are many documents that contain technical requirements (mandated or recommended) for the planning, design, construction and operation of road tunnels. This is particularly true for the fire protection and fire safety systems of any road tunnel. Such documents are prepared and developed by a variety of entities including independent technical organizations, government agencies, individual countries, global organizations and local governments. Table 1 - Examples of Regulations, Standards and Guidelines Worldwide contains a partial list of such global documents.
