The State Department of Transportation is planning a resurfacing project for state Route 73 through Cascade pass, just in time for 2,200 Ironman athletes to ride their bikes down it on race day.

According to DOT Region one spokesman Peter Van Keuren, an inch-and-a-half layer of asphalt will be laid for about 2.5 miles between Stagecoach Rock and the three-lane section west of Keene. Van Keuren said the road is being resurfaced because it requires something more than pothole repairs.

We don t have the funding at this time to do a major reconstruction on the road right now, but this resurfacing will help the road along, hopefully ...
