Senators struggled Thursday to wrap up the debate on a Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) that would require power companies to generate 15% of their electricity from renewable sources of energy by 2021. The issue of nuclear power proved to be particularly divisive.
Several amendments by Republican members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee sought to add nuclear power to the RES mix. However, they were defeated in close votes.
