Ven Poole knew enough about the waste industry that he wanted to become an aerospace engineer.

And he knew enough about the waste industry that when it was time to come home that he wanted to work in the family business.

Now Poole finds himself as leader of Waste Industries USA Inc., the solid waste management company his father, Lonnie C. Poole Jr., founded in 1970.

"It's always a son's aspiration to move up and step into the father's shoes at some point,'' Poole said last week.
