GOLD COAST, June 10 Asia Pulse - The Gold Coast's international tourism market has taken a massive hit as the global financial crisis bites.

In the year to the end of March, 60,000 fewer international tourists visited the iconic Queensland strip.

That's a fall of 7.8 per cent on the previous year, new figures released by Tourism Australia show.

The figures, drawn from the tourism group's annual International Visitor Survey, reflect flagging tourism activity across Australia, which suffered an overall fall of 1.6 per cent.
