WASHINGTON -- A beleaguered Jennifer Convertibles, a 149-unit chain specializ- ing in sofabeds, got an earful from its newest major shareholder -- Columbus, Ohio-based furniture merchant David A. Belford -- who demanded a seat at the board table and urged a company merger.
According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Belford, president of Nationwide Warehouse & Storage Inc., an 80-store furniture retail chain, met Oct. 31 with Jennifer chairman Harley J. Greenfield to say he "believes strongly" that Jennifer should merge with "a private company owned by a prin- cipal stockholder of the company."
