The fact that Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most outspoken and persnickety of American architects has not diminished his reputation as an icon of the modem movement. In the end, it was his idiosyncratic personality that made his innovative buildings seem to grow naturally from their sites and his interiors (which he often designed down to the smallest detail) to sing, with their harmonious proportions, judicious use of color, and respect for the natural texture of their materials.
