Article: Joint venture for moulding process.(PROCESSING)

US-based Trexel Inc, a developer of the MuCell microcellular moulding process, is working with injection press maker Engel Machinery Inc to commercialize the injection/expansion moulding process, also known as the "core back" process. The MuCell moulding process involves the controlled use of gas in its supercritical state to create a foamed part.

The "core back" process can mould structural parts with high weight savings by cutting the density and increasing the ratio of stiffness to weight, said the companies. Once the foamed resin has filled the mould, the back of the mould is partially extracted to form a thick, multilayer structure.
