Governor George E. Pataki has announced the results of the 1997 New York New Media Industry Survey, which found the $5.7 billion industry had added 30,000 new jobs in the past 18 months. A total of 631 new media companies have flocked to New York during that span, sparked by the city's creativity and talent, its telecommunications infrastructure and its overall business-friendly climate.
The study was conducted by Coopers & Lybrand, LLP and the New York New Media Association, with primary funding provided by Empire State Development Corporation (ESD), along with the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Chase Bank.
