SYDNEY, June 12 Asia Pulse - When the New South Wales (NSW) government delivers its budget next Tuesday it will be hoping it can revive more than just the Australian state's flagging economy.

Premier Nathan Rees and Treasurer Eric Roozendaal have framed the budget at a time when, despite their denials, the state is technically in recession.

Figures released this week put NSW's unemployment rate at 6.4 per cent - the highest in Australia.

It was more bad news for a Labor government well behind in the polls and mired in speculation about Mr Rees' leadership.
