One year after launching its branded line of PCs at retail, Sony Electronics is making inroads into the direct channel with a new line of VAIO desktop systems. An abbreviation for Video Audio Integrated Operation, the VAIO series embodies Sony's "total media integration" concept, which leverages both the current trend toward PC convergence in the home and Sony's clout in the consumer electronics industry.
