Mention Manhattan Ford-Lincoln-Mercury-Jaguar Inc. to a New York City Ford dealer and he will probably scowl like one of the gargoyles that adorn the dealership's facade.

Manhattan Ford is Ford Motor Co.'s only factory store. The operation was established in 1969 when independent dealers could no longer afford real estate in Manhattan, Ford says.

The building, a 68-year-old landmark on 11th Avenue that was once the Packard Motor Car Co. service building, cost Ford $40 million, according to Experfan, a real estate database service in Anaheim, Calif.
