NEWPORT - Port officials have yet to hear any word from the federal government about whether the Port of Newport has a shot at $13 million in stimulus money port officials applied for to remove a couple of leaky World War II era ships from Yaquina Bay.
But if the sheer volume of applications is any indication, it's clear that the competition is stiff.
A spokesman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said last week that the government has received 810 proposals from various entities around the nation that total $3 billion in requests.
