EUROPE'S LARGEST SHIP building group, STX Europe, recently announced a pair of projects. One of those contracts was awarded by the French Navy to STX France Cruise SA to build its third 21,000-ton Projection and Command Vessel (Les Batiments de Projection et de Commandement) at its shipyard in St. Nazaire, France.
STX Europe, Alstom and the French Government all have a stake in STX France Cruise SA.
Similar in mission to the U.S. Navy's Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ships, the French Navy's 199m Projection and Command vessels are all-electric ship. Each BPC has a carrying capacity of 450 troops, 16 heavy-lift helicopters, two hovercraft, four landing craft ...
