It should have been a good day for those who need low-income housing.
The waiting list of people applying for federally subsidized rental units in Lane County opened on Wednesday after being closed for the past 3' years.
The Housing and Community Services Agency, which oversees the waiting list, had stopped taking names because the backlog of people seeking housing had grown to 7,000, many of them waiting almost four years to get into the program.
