The fate of a gas-powered motor ban for Waldo Lake remains unclear after a Wednesday ruling by U.S. Magistrate Thomas Coffin.
Coffin agreed with timber heir Steven Stewart that the U.S. Forest Service had not properly established its authority two years ago when it adopted the ban - scheduled to go into effect on July 21.
But Coffin did not rule that the lake belongs to the state of Oregon - which would have precluded the Forest Service's ability to ban motor boats - as Stewart's lawsuit had asked the judge to do.
So it's not immediately clear whether the legal outcome will derail the ban.
