Japan bans trade with North Korea as part of new sanctions

Tokyo, June 16 (PTI) Japan today totally banned all exports to North Korea and toughened restrictions on the flow of people to punish Pyongyang's reclusive communist regime for its recent nuclear and missile tests.

As Japan has already banned imports from North Korea, the additional measures will lead to the complete suspension of bilateral trade.

Since the value of exports is small, the effectiveness of a total ban on bilateral trade is expected to be limited, but Tokyo apparently hopes to show a tough stance on North Korea's nuclear threat, Kyodo news agency reported.
