Student performance on standardized admissions tests is important for facilitating access to postsecondary education opportunities. There have been reports that American Indian students tend to obtain scores on standardized college admissions test, such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT) Assessment, that are lower than the scores of majority students. For instance, Owings, McMillen, and Burkett (1995) found that American Indian students were less likely than majority students to achieve SAT scores high enough to be considered for admission to selective universities.
