Jan. 30--The days when Dave Goode hurled himself down mountains at up to 80 m.p.h. are long over but Olympic dreams die hard.

And now he has a new one.

Goode, a native of Bloomfield Hills, was once a member of the U.S. ski team and ranked among the nation's top 25 alpine ski racers. But as he fought his way through a severe ankle injury over half a dozen years, he ultimately failed to make it to Innsbruck, Austria, in 1976 or Lake Placid, N.Y., in 1980.

Nonetheless, next month, he will be back on the slopes at his first-ever Olympics, in Nagano, Japan. ...
