Believe it or not, this month will see the 40th Art Basel (10-14 June). No doubt the local gallerists who founded the event had no idea that it would evolve into the world's most extraordinary art event. Art Basel takes over the entire city- day and night -and is, in effect, a piece of performance art in its own right. Part fair, part exhibition, part party, it is above all one giant networking jamboree.
