Current problems should not be allowed to overshadow the many positive factors that will continue to drive New York City's real estate markets, Ari Shalam, director of acquisitions for Taconic Investment Partners, told members of the National Realty Club at a meeting at the Williams Club in Manhattan.

"The problems we face are real, but so are the opportunities," said Shalam, offering a general timeline for action.

This year is for tending to existing assets and organizing capital, he said, while 2010 through 2012 "will be the time to begin selectively acquiring assets."
