With 1,200 fewer staffers, Ford Motor Credit Co.'s remaining employees have been asked to increase efficiency and work more closely with their counterparts in parts and service and marketing.
The job cuts, which began in February and will be finished by July, trimmed the credit arm's U.S. work force by 20 percent. Ford Credit's field operation the employees who visit dealers on the front lines was hit twice as hard. It went from 590 people to 340, a reduction of 42 percent.
"They're not around quite as much as they seemed to use to be, says Vinje Dahl, owner of Dahl Ford in Davenport, Iowa.
