A mecca for mountain recreation, Winter Park's prototype program has myriad activities for people of all levels of physical abilities.
Winter Park Resort (Colo.) serves as home to the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), founded in 1970 when 23 pediatric amputee patients from Children's Hospital in Denver learned to ski. With the help of corporate funding and private donations--along with more than 1,000 trained volunteers--the facility offers nearly 20,000 ski lessons each season to participants from around the globe.
