MENANDS -- A sparkling bell hangs at the foot of the stairs at Tougher Industries Enterprises. The instructions say it is to be rung every time a new job is secured.
"Lately, we've been ringing that bell a lot. I'm wearing it down," said a smiling William H. Tougher Jr.
The company manufactures duct work, designs and installs heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, provides maintenance and service for HVAC systems, and offers energy consulting for owners of large buildings.
Two years ago, it wasn't clear that a local company with the Tougher name would survive.
