A storm of controversy has erupted between the nation's philatelists and Washington as stamps, which long have depicted American history, values and culture, have come to be graced with icons such as cartoon character Bugs Bunny, Hollywood sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and African-American historian and Communist Party member W.E.B.
