The American economy saw falling transport and inventory costs throughout 2008 leading to an overall fall in logistics costs of 3.5%, according to the annual 'State of Logistics' report from the American Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) which has just been published.

Although by the end of 2008 logistics still accounted for 9.4% of GDP, this figure represented the first fall as a proportion of GDP ...
