BERLIN -- Wunsche AG's takeover of Joop GmbH, Wiesbaden, is official.
The Hamburg-based concern announced Thursday that it had acquired a 95 percent stake in Joop, with designer Wolfgang Joop holding the remaining 5 percent. The acquisition cost $83.3 million (150 million marks) and has been made retroactive to Jan. 1, Wunsche said.
Other parties that had been interested in acquiring Joop, according to sources, included Marzotto, which holds a majority stake in Hugo Boss, and the German retail chain Peek & Cloppenburg in partnership with the previous owners of Boss, Uwe and Jochen Holy. Spokesmen for P&C and Marzotto could not be reached for comment.
